Advancing Renewables Program

The Advancing Renewables Program is continuously open for applications that address the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) Investment Priorities.

ARENA wishes to attract and fund projects that align with its Investment Plan and the priority low emissions technologies and emerging and enabling technologies outlined in the Low Emissions Technology Statement that support renewable energy and enabling technologies.

ARENA’S FUTURE FUELS PROGRAM

The Australian Government’s Future Fuels initiative, recently expanded with a further $177.7 million, has reopened with a dedicated program to shift fleet operators to zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs). The focus of the grant is too support integration of Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) into light and heavy vehicle fleets and commercialising hydrogen as a transport fuel.

Business Energy Advice Program (BEAP)

The Business Energy Advice Program (BEAP) is a free energy advisory program for small businesses (1-19 employees) across Australia that delivers face-to-face and phone consultations, helping them to discover industry specific energy saving opportunities. BEAP is funded by the Australian Government and delivered by Business Australia.

BEAP provides advice on energy procurement and energy efficiency opportunities to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) manage their energy consumption and costs. The service also gives small businesses free access to information available online including case studies, fact sheets, and information on how businesses can access government grants.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

BUSINESS ENERGY AND WATER PROGRAM

Rebates of up to $5,000 is available for ACT businesses to upgrade to more water-efficient and energy-efficient technologies, including with lighting, appliances, heating or cooling, refrigeration, insulation, toilets, and tapware.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

The ACT Government introduced the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme to place a requirement on electricity retailers to achieve energy savings in households and small-to-medium businesses. Since its introduction, the scheme has delivered over 1.3 million energy saving products to around 74,000 ACT households and businesses.

Next Generation Energy Storage (Next Gen) Program

The $25 million Next Generation Energy Storage (Next Gen) Program provides rebates for ACT homes and businesses’ battery storage systems. To be eligible, you will need to be connected to the electricity grid, be coupled with solar panels, and include a new or existing inverter that meets the requirements. Investing in storing solar power will lower costs and reduce your overall energy demand.

BETTER BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

The Better Business Partnership provides businesses in Sydney’s North Shore region with access to a range of services to help them reduce energy, water consumption and waste.

Submetering grants from NSW Government

The new energy metering package will help NSW businesses improve their metering and monitoring systems including $12 million in metering packages and Submetering grants of up to $20,000.

INCENTIVES FOR SWITCHING TO ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Rebates of $3,000 are available through the NSW Government for the first 25,000 new battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles purchased for less than $68,750, inclusive of GST. This applies to cars registered any time after 1 September 2021.

By switching to an electric vehicle, businesses will also benefit from a stamp duty removal and savings in running costs of up to $7,500 a year.

Sustainable Water Partner Program

Businesses can use a significant amount of energy for heating water. Companies in Ballina, Byron, Lismore and Richmond Valley local government areas are eligible for a rebate to improve their water efficiency, which will in turn help reduce energy consumption. 

Up to $25,000 in rebates are available for projects that save money by reducing water, waste and sewage.

Northern Territory

HOME AND BUSINESS BATTERY SCHEME PROGRAM

NT businesses can apply for a grant through the Home and Business Battery Scheme to buy and install batteries and inverters. Eligible businesses can access a grant of $450 per kilowatt hour of useable battery system capacity, up to a maximum grant of $6,000.

SMARTER BUSINESS SOLUTIONS PROGRAM

Eligible NT businesses can apply for grants of up to 50% of the cost for efficiency improvements - maximum of $20,000 to help reduce day-to-day energy, water, waste and material costs.

ecoBiz action plans

Funded by the Queensland Government, Ecobiz is a free resource for small to medium businesses that provide an assessment of your energy use. Using background information on your previous 12-months of energy, water and waste bills, a regional expert will visit you to conduct a thorough assessment and determine some personalised recommendations to save on energy, water and waste bills.

DROUGHT RELIEF FROM ELECTRICITY CHARGES SCHEME (DRECS)

Financial assistance for managing electricity cost is available to businesses who do not have access to, or have severely restricted access to, farm or irrigation water in drought-declared areas, or properties that have been individually drought-declared. The reimbursement applies to eligible supply charge components applicable to any account used for pumping water for farm or irrigation purposes.

South Australia

INCENTIVES FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The South Australian government has introduced an electric vehicle subsidy package, including $3,000 subsidies and a three-year registration exemption for purchasing eligible new battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. As of 25 January 2022, 6,950 electric vehicle subsidies were remaining. 

Additional grants are also available for building smart charging stations. These are in addition to the $18.3 million implementation of South Australia’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan.

Adelaide’s Sustainability Incentives Scheme

The City of Adelaide provides financial incentives for sustainable technology installation in apartments, houses and commercial buildings, to improve energy and water performance. This can have the added benefit of reducing costs, cutting carbon emissions and increasing the value of the property.

Several rebates are available to be claimed through the Sustainability Incentives Scheme.

Resource Efficiency and Productivity

Transition your business to the circular economy with assistance from Resource Efficiency and Productivity (REAP) grants. This grant offers a 50 per cent subsidy for a resource efficiency and productivity assessment, to a maximum of $10,000. An additional $10,000 is available on successful completion of a Green Industries SA approved assessment to kick-start implementation of the recommendations.

REAP is taking expressions of interest for 2021-22.

Tasmania

STAMP DUTY WAIVER FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The Tasmanian Government has removed stamp duty from purchases of EVs for the next two years. The waiver applies to the purchase of new and second hand 100% electric or hydrogen vehicles and is expected to reduce the initial purchase costs of EVs by around $2,000 on average. The program started on 1 July 2021 and will end July 2023. Visit Transport Services for details on how to apply for the exemption. The exemption will be backdated for purchases made from 1 July 2021.

Victoria

SMALL BUSINESS ENERGY SAVER PROGRAM

Small businesses wishing to improve the energy efficiency of their equipment can now apply for bonuses of up to $2,000. 

Discounts can be applied to equipment such as heat pumps, water heaters, refrigerators and upright freezers, helping small businesses save on energy bills and reduce their emissions.

SOLAR FOR BUSINESS

Start the transition to renewables today by taking advantage of rebates for rooftop solar for small businesses through Solar Victoria. Currently available to building owners, with plans to expand to renters, rebates are available for up to 50 per cent of the net cost of a rooftop solar system, to a maximum value of $3,500. VICTORIAN ENERGY UPGRADES (VEU) PROGRAM

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program provides businesses with access to discounts on a wide range of energy-efficient products. This helps cut power bills and reduce emissions.

Most businesses are eligible for the program and can upgrade lighting, heating and cooling systems, refrigeration systems, and other equipment. The average business currently saves $3,700 per year by participating in the VEU program.
